Elvina Pinto is an Indian-Canadian Berlin-based artist working with voice, electronics, piano and found sound. Years of experience in Argentine Tango, experimental dance and internal martial arts led her deep into the somatic nuances and inner explorations of these various body and movement practices. In recent years, she has been transmuting her curiosities of meditative states, spatial layering, repetition and narrative into sonic experiences as a way of observing, writing and composing.
Her most recent focus lies among varied methods of music composition and sound art, experimenting with free form exploration of the piano, voice and digital synthesis. She has created site-specific sound art and soundscapes for various artists’ installations, and composes music for contemporary dance and visual media.
About the work
A heart’s longing to approach the mysteries of a wilder and more imaginative reality through the processes and struggles of self-cultivation. Vivid imagery began to form around the sonic atmospheres and textures that were being generated, propelling a release into introspection. Wandering in and out of transient dream states and imaginal realms, the words and resonances weave threads through the surreal and unspoken.
Written and recorded across Berlin, Germany (current home), Foligno, Italy (second home) and Doha, Qatar (home town), the eight-track debut album traces a passage through the songs and instrumentals, evoking inner reflections , revelations and confessions of imaginary happenings.
All tracks produced, composed, arranged and written by Elvina Pinto.*
